About
Lucas was born in California, and has lived in several countries throughout his childhood. He draws from his experiences living in many different cultures in his childhood. Having been a musician since his early teens Lucas has always enjoyed expressing the inner and outer world through music. It wasn’t until later the exploration into visual arts began first with painting, then with glass. Studying glass with his uncle, a fellow artist and taking several glass courses he found the relationship glass has with light to be its strength. To play on the ability to reflect light and be illuminated by light, mirroring the ability we have as humans. You will find silver and copper in a lot of his work because of its reaction with glass at high temperature creating an aura of color. Some pieces are created for nothing more than creating something visually striking and other work has a more interpretive aspect pointing to and hinting at the organizing principles and patterns of the universe.
Lucas instructed a fused glass class on metal inclusions and reactions at Slumpfest 2012. He also instructed a class on the crackle technique at Slumpfest 2013.
